Songs for Halloween

Here’s another post, because Halloween is just too much fun to post about it only once!

It’s sunny and warm where I am, so I need to make a concentrated effort to get in the spirit of the holiday. One way to go about doing this is listening to some Halloween-ish tunes. I’d like to share a few that will be sure to send shivers down your spine.

1. “Brains!” by Voltaire
If you recognize this song, it’s probably because it was used in an episode of the TV show “The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.” “Brains!” is a fun little ditty, filled with energetic strings and a delightfully over-the-top Voltaire singing the part of a brain-hungry alien.

2. “They Are Night Zombies!! They Are Neighbors!! They Have Come Back From The Dead!! Ahhhh!” by Sufjan Stevens
Quite a departure from the silly “Brains!”, Sufjan Steven’s rhythmic, chanting ballad features a rambling electric guitar and a percussive beat that evokes images of roaming zombies. The forlorn lyrics paired with Sufjan’s quavering voice makes for a chilling song you’ll not soon forget.

3. “Dead Man’s Party” by Oingo Boingo
Here’s a Halloween song that’s lots of fun. Never one to shy away from diverse orchestration, musician/singer Danny Elfman implements big-band sounds, varied percussion instruments, and a synthesizer for this ghoulishly swingin’ tune.

I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do, and again, I wish you all a happy Halloween!

About I've seen that movie, too

I'm just a girl who loves talking about music and movies. And music in movies.
